From two family businesses to one team.
Barry ran B&D Home Improvement, building decks, awnings and renovations across Wollongong and the Macarthur region. Jim ran Jim Smith Constructions out of Picton, with a background in steel fabrication and structural work. Both had been building since the mid-1990s, and both were tired of watching the trade cut corners.
In 2015 they brought the two businesses together as JB Outdoor and set up one base at 1/35 Five Islands Road, Port Kembla: a workshop, warehouse and machinery yard on the same block. It is where we fabricate our steel and store the materials for your job, so supply and construction stay on schedule. No subcontractor roulette, no middlemen marking up steel. The person who quotes your job is the person who builds it.
Everything we build sits a few kilometres from the ocean, so everything is specified for salt air first: marine-grade fixings, corrosion-resistant framing and powder-coated finishes. We have seen what thirty years of sea breeze does to anything less.
